Hi
Nic Jonsson here again! I hope all of you had a great week since
I last checked in. I’ve been as busy as ever and that means
lots of travel and racing. Our Kinetic Motorsports team had one
of our best weekends ever! We traveled across the border to Trios-Riviere
track in Canada to race in the KONI Challenge GS and ST class. Russell
Smith (my business partner at Kinetics) and Lee Davis drove the
ST car. They had a good, safe race and gained a lot of experience.
But the really exciting news happened on Sunday morning when we,
“KINETIC MOTORSPORTS”, scored our first victory since
we started racing three years ago! This is a huge milestone for
us and it really means a lot to all involved. This has been a long
time coming especially for those who have really hung in there and
finally got to taste the sweetness of victory. I’m a very
proud team owner and very happy for all of our crew…“well
done guy’s”! This just shows that persistence and having
a concept you believe in will work out in the long run. Russell
and I are very fortunate to have this group of guys on our team.
They believed in themselves and the first class program we have
been trying to put together over the years. I think we are finally
there and it is starting to pay off.
Also at Kinetic’s, we had one of our track evenings for our
clients at Road Atlanta Monday night. We always have so much fun
since we get such a great mix of people and cars out for these events.
This time we had our BMW GS and ST to Audi R8’s to Mazda Miata
Cup cars. These track nights are especially interesting for me because
I get to drive a bunch of them while making suggestions to our clients
on what to do to improve the performance and safety of these cars
regarding suspension, brakes, engine, etc.
Besides catching up with work, I have been trying to entertain my
son Max, since I gave the cold I had at Watkins Glen to my wife.
When Max was a little younger, I just stood him in one of the tall
trash cans and he could not go anywhere. Now, he crawls out in a
hurry and takes off on his way to explore everything he’s
not suppose to. Actually, it’s a lot of fun and luckily our
group at the Kinetic shop is very understanding. Actually, I think
they just get a kick out of seeing me running around like crazy
trying to keep track of Max. The crew is really very helpful and
glad to help me keep me keep Max entertained…may just be a
good excuse to get out of working for a few minutes, just kidding.
Now it’s time to focus on the next Rolex DP race in Sonoma
at Infineon Raceway. This is one of my favorite races on the schedule
every year. This track is very challenging and brings a lot of interesting
twists to the race. The track has a lot of ups and downs, hard braking
zones, fast corners along with slow stop and go corners. The set
up here is very important from a tire management perspective. If
you don’t have a good balance of the car, you’re most
likely going to run out of grip while the tires are getting worn
out. I know this is a given at most tracks however this track does
not allow for the tires to cool down since there’s hardly
any straights and a constant load on the tires.
I’m really excited and have high hopes for the weekend with
the Proto Auto LOLA machine. At Krohn Racing, we have been steadily
improving the car but have not had the best of luck this year. We
believe in ourselves, we keep charging forward and are hopeful that
success is soon to come.
Until next week, take care and be sure to tune in Saturday for the
Sonoma race, airing on SPEED Sunday.
Your friend, Nic
